Christian Science was first mentioned...
Christian Science was first mentioned to me just after I had returned from seeing a specialist for my baby boy. For almost a year I had carried him on pillows, for he was suffering from what was called "wasting disease." I had stopped at the home of a relative whose sister, a Christian Science practitioner, was visiting her. She told me of the healing truth, and my baby was healed before I left for home.
Knowing that I had a condition from birth called paralyzed intestines, which doctors had pronounced incurable, she asked me if I were eager for a healing. I answered that if Christian Science could heal me I would then believe in it. That night I was given a treatment, and when I awoke the next morning the healing was complete. The healing took place over thirty-five years ago, and words can never express my gratitude. While I am grateful for the physical and material benefits received through Christian Science, I am more grateful for the understanding of true substance as spiritual, indestructible, and invariable.
I learned through the overcoming of contagious diseases, while I was rearing a family of children, that it is necessary to follow the injunction Mrs. Eddy has given us (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 167), "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." The accepting of this truth prepared me for the following experience.
