Words are inadequate to express...
Words are inadequate to express the gratitude I feel for Christian Science. When I married and was out from under the care and loving guidance of my parents, I was like some lost thing. I had a home, husband, and later a fine son, and yet I was very unhappy because I did not know where to find God. Finally, self-will and love of material pleasures nearly disrupted our home. My son and I were sick, and we spent large sums of money on doctors and hospital bills. In 1929, when my son was twelve years old, I found this heaven-sent message, Christian Science. It immediately filled a void in my consciousness, as nothing had done before. I went to church, and placed the boy in Sunday school. At last I had found God, and experienced in a degree that peace "which passeth all understanding." My son, who had lost a great deal of schooling through illness, lost only one day from that time until he finished high school. He too felt the freedom and joy of this blessed truth.
My first healing was of sinus trouble, and came about through my reading a Christian Science Sentinel from cover to cover. We immediately began to have other healings—some with the help of practitioners, some through our own efforts—including those of athlete's foot, colds, infected fingers, and an instantaneous healing of an infection in a toe, a condition which had bordered on blood poisoning. I had taken laxatives regularly for years, and had also given them to my son. This habit was dropped without any effort, and no material remedy has been used for twelve years.
Three years later I gave birth to a daughter under Christian Science treatment. I was so completely "hid with Christ" that practically no one knew of my condition. I taught in the Sunday school two days before she arrived. I saw the doctor only twice; the first time was at the birth, which was very quick and harmonious, and the second time was about a week later, when he made a social call. The child has attended Sunday school since she was two and a half years old. We have also had a greater sense of adundance than we ever had before.
