Quietness

There is a quietness more real than sound.
He then who finds it will not be disturbed
By careless word or deed of thoughtless men,
Nor yet be flattered by the loud acclaim
Of those whose praise may lightly turn to scorn.
This quietness is called the peace of God
That passeth understanding. Unto all
Who know it well a glimpse of heaven comes.
This quietness that fills all height and depth—
A precious treasure earnest love will find.

Deny the claims of matter one by one;
Affirm the truths of Spirit valiantly!
Then shall this quietness be your abode,
A tranquil dwelling, your forever home.
