Awake!

"Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light."

These words, which occur in Paul's letter to the Ephesians, are of special importance to humanity today. As one progresses in the study of Christian Science, he becomes increasingly aware that salvation, or freedom from earth's troubles, is a process of continuous awakening. Each healing experience is a further awakening to the truth of being, to the great fact that the good for which mankind is perpetually seeking, including health, supply, happiness, is already here and has always been here. Nothing real changes. Only thought is aroused to see the good which mortal belief, or the sleep of mesmerism, has seemingly hidden or concealed. He begins to discern that since God is Spirit, His creation, including man, is spiritual and indestructible.

On page 252 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes, "A knowledge of error and of its operations must precede that understanding of Truth which destroys error, until the entire mortal, material error finally disappears, and the eternal verity, man created by and of Spirit, is understood and recognized as the true likeness of his Maker." Any difficulty confronting one, whether it be disease, lack, or unhappiness, must be seen as an image of thought, a dream picture from which we must be aroused. This stand taken, we can know that our loving Father, Mind, gives us the understanding through which to overcome the wrong belief that has seemed to deceive us. As we are receptive to God's leadings, we never fail to receive the thoughts that show us the baselessness of what seemed so real before.
