Spiritual Substance

A Definite keynote to supply is given by Mary Baker Eddy in her article entitled "Angels" in "Miscellaneous Writings," where she says (p. 307): "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies. Never ask for to-morrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment."

Application of this truth in human experience brings into play a recognition of spiritual ideas, obedience in the utilization of these ideas, and a never-doubting expectancy of the fulfillment of God's promises.

The understanding of spiritual ideas comes through spiritual unfoldment, and each step brings new joy, vision, and inspiration. Our Leader's words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 88), "Ideas are emanations from the divine Mind," lift thought immediately from the realm of the human concept of good. She continues: "Thoughts, proceeding from the brain or from matter, are offshoots of mortal mind; they are mortal material beliefs. Ideas are spiritual, harmonious, and eternal." Thus looking to the right source we learn to perceive these ideas, through our ever-developing spiritual sense, in quiet moments of communion with God. They may unfold to us as angel messages leading us to do good deeds, or as patience, tolerance, forgiveness. Again they may appear as admonition to greater fidelity and obedience to Principle or in the sudden disclosure of the unreality of hatred and personal evil, as when the angel smote "the hollow of Jacob's thigh." However they may appear, we can always feel the love, peace, quietness, and confidence they bring.
