"And God said, Let there be...

"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." Eight years ago, the light of spiritual reality as revealed through the teachings of Christian Science lifted me from the very depths of mental chaos, apathy, despondency, and despair, and planted my feet firmly upon the rock, Truth. I shall never cease to be grateful for the first ray of light which pierced the blackness of materiality to reveal to my troubled consciousness the great goodness of God. This occurred while I was reading the Christian Science Sentinel for the first time. It is beyond the power of words adequately to describe the spiritual experience which followed. My thought was so transformed that I was immediately healed of fear and dread, and of agnosticism of years's standing, and I experienced the "peace of God, which passeth all understanding."

Shortly thereafter, through my sincere study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and other Christian Science literature, many undesirable traits of character and unwholesome habits dropped off, never to return. First among healings to follow were those of daily headaches, occasional paralysis, and grief over the passing on of a loved one.

Out revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says (Science and Health, p. 559), "The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, 'as when a lion roareth.'" This was proved to me in one healing, which stands out as a landmark in the early days of my study of Christian Science. I was awakened in the middle of the night in great physical distress with what would be called heart failure. I sat up and tried to think clearly, but I was gripped with an overwhelming fear of passing on. Suddenly, it was as though a great voice spoke out of the night, saying, "God is your Life." I was immediately free. I went back to sleep and have never had a return of this difficulty.
