With full gratitude for what...

With full gratitude for what Christian Science means to me as a parent, as well as in all my other activities, I should like to relate an experience demonstrating the life-sustaining qualities available through applying this wonderful Science.

One day while I was out driving, our little girl, then six years old, fell out of the car. I was driving at about twenty-five or thirty miles an hour. Her little friend called to me, and I hastily stopped the car, saying over and over again: "You are now and always have been in God's care. You are His child and live in Him and in harmony." I ran back to where she was lying, unconscious, on the street. I picked her up quickly, thanked kind people who offered assistance, and put her in the back seat of the car. Many angel thoughts came to my assistance as I drove to the home of a friend who lived near by. There I telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner and asked the friend to go back to my home with me. Before taking the child into the house, I went in and spoke to my husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, saying we should have to take a stand for God as we never had before, and then quickly related what had occurred. A Christian Science nurse was summoned and stood faithfully by.

The child showed no sign of consciousness until the next day when the practitioner called. Then, in answer to the questions that were asked her, she made simple statements that she had learned in Sunday school. Suggestions of hemorrhage and fever were instantaneously overcome. The second day thereafter she sat up; the third day she was moved downstairs to a couch; and the fourth day she got up, dressed, walked around the house, and went out for a short ride in the car. From then on she was active. In a couple of weeks all scabs were gone, and she was enjoying a vacation at the beach. During the early part of this experience I received wonderful inspiration from references on the one Mind, found, by means of the Concordance, in Science and Health. One of these references includes Mrs. Eddy's definition of "Father." We were so lifted above the material sense of things that when company came in, three hours or so after the accident, we chatted with them and served them refreshments, and to this day one of them is ignorant of the circumstances.
