The Gate Beautiful

An inspiring story is recorded, in the third chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, of the healing of a lame man "at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful."

Here was to mortal sense an extreme case, an incurable cripple who was a beggar. Materially speaking, he could have found no more splendid position in which to ply his trade. Around him were the splendors of the building on which Herod had lavished the utmost riches. The gate must have been an advantageous position from the standpoint of gain, for presumably large crowds congregated there.

The Biblical account relates that the man was laid daily at this gate, and as Peter and John were going into the temple to pray he asked an alms of them.
