My interest in the teachings of Christian Science began...

My interest in the teachings of Christian Science began thirty years ago, at a time of great sorrow. Bereft of a life companion, my grief was poignant. Rearing and providing for two small sons, aged nine and seven, seemed a tremendous responsibility. I was then a member of an orthodox church and had attended Sunday school and church from early childhood. Through these years I had gained a faith in God's guidance which was a sustaining influence, enabling me to rely upon His promises for comfort and provision.

While visiting a large city, I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a Christian Science church. The attendance was amazing to me when I compared it to the usual number at the midweek prayer meetings I had attended. The testimonies astonished me, awakening in me the realization that this church was extending to mankind a practical understanding of God's presence and power. So impressed was I by what I heard of the availability of God's power to meet every human need, that I purchased a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began the search for enlightenment. Needless to say, the promise, "Seek, and ye shall find," has been fulfilled, and I have long been a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

My great desire as a young woman was to carry the Word of God to the so-called heathen countries, but the desire was not attained. How grateful I am that I am now able to help my fellow man prove the efficacy of God's presence and the power of that presence in overcoming sickness and sin, and so aiding in establishing the kingdom of God on earth! In the words of Hymn No. 131 in the Christian Science Hymnal:
