Talents and Occupation

[Written Especially for Young People]

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE has made clear to the world that true individuality is not to be found in matter, or what the material senses term physique. Man's identity or individuality is a reflection of the divine. And so man, by reflection, possesses the ability of God.

In recent years, a new subject called vocational guidance has risen to prominence in the educational field. Interested teachers are giving much thought to the subject in order to help the student select the kind of work he or she will be best able to do; and then courses of special instruction along the chosen line are arranged. This is certainly an improvement over the old system; but yet there must be something lacking, for, after receiving required training, the graduates still face each year the problem of overcrowded professions, and one continues to hear the plea, "Oh, if I could only find a job!"

Young Christian Scientists need not be troubled by this false picture, because it is nothing but a dream shadow of the human mind. Such a condition does not exist in the universe of spiritual ideas, and anyone who will turn with all his heart to God can find the way out of this seeming wilderness. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." This is the spiritual fact. Here is the truth that will reverse all claims of lack, unemployment, stagnation, and disappointment. We need never be burdened or cast down while we have this truth to sustain us. We can trust in God and go forward.
