True Loyalty

LOYALTY is a quality which every right-thinking person sincerely desires to express. The question inevitably arises, "To what, or to whom, shall one be loyal?" To the student of Christian Science there can be but one answer, and that is, to Principle, for in loyalty to Principle is included every right loyalty, to country, church, friends, employer, family, and self.

Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, leaves us in no doubt on this subject, for on page 183 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" are these arresting words: "Divine Mind rightly demands man's entire obedience, affection, and strength. No reservation is made for any lesser loyalty. Obedience to Truth gives man power and strength. Submission to error superinduces loss of power." All power and achievement, then, are to be found in loyalty to God, divine Principle.

Because man is the complete and perfect reflection of God, one is loyal to Principle only when he is expressing Godlike qualities in his every activity. One cannot accept as true the belief that one is ill, decrepit, dishonest, or poor; for the real man, in God's likeness, expresses health and wholeness, vigor and vitality, integrity, abundance, and bountifulness.
