The Secret Place

WE have a secret place, Love-lit, serene, and calm,
Prepared to meet the heart's deep need;
'Tis our guestchamber, lovely, garnished in and out
With holy thought and gentle deed;
Here Love's disciples, angel thoughts, abide by day
And at the eventide may draw us close to God,
That Love the hungry heart may feed.

Here we may eat with joy unleavened bread of Truth,
May know and do the Father's will;
The wine of inspiration freely drink anew—
Deep draughts of Truth, our hearts to fill.
The arrogance of matter fades and dies away;
No evil casts its shadow on the trusting heart,
Since Love and Life are with us still.

For in this sacred place the Christ forever dwells,
In love bestowing gifts each hour.
The radiance of this presence fills the wondrous place
With holy calm and heavenly power;
Here strength and freedom flow into receptive hearts,
Here love and joy, the precious fruits that Spirit gives,
Forever dwell—Love's gracious dower.
