In my early years in the study of Christian Science I had an experience which I should like to relate.

One morning, when I was using the sewing machine the needle suddenly caught and held fast the thumb of my left hand. I tried to extricate it for some time, but without success; at last I was able to get my hand free. The needle had penetrated the center of the nail and gone clear through the thumb.

Not a single twinge or suggestion of pain was ever experienced, and I went on sewing as if nothing had occurred, which, in reality, was true, for "accidents are unknown to God" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 424). I have always been deeply grateful for this demonstration, for it was a definite proof that "there is no sensation in matter" (ibid., p. 237).

Christian Science had been, and is, the "pearl of great price" in my life, and my one desire is to gain a fuller understanding of this blessed truth, for it heals the sick and the sinning, and comforts the sorrowing.
