In this era it is gratifying to know how much Christian Science does to build up the home. For over twenty years Christian Science has been my only physician and help in times of trial.
I first became interested in this Science when we invited a friend to our house one Wednesday evening to dinner. She asked to be excused early so she could attend a Wednesday evening meeting. I knew nothing about Christian Science and was curious to see what this religion had to offer, so I went with her. At that time I was in a very disturbed state of thought. Having two children to rear, and my husband's health and business being poor, I was seeking a religion which would bring me genuine peace and happiness. I think of that first service I attended with great joy, for there I gained a wider vision of my real environment and of "the peace ... which passeth all understanding."
Attending church services regularly, reading the Bible as I had never done before, and starting in upon the study of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I soon began to realize my oneness with God. This was proved to me some years ago, when I experienced a quick and complete healing of a serious injury. Our family had planned a vacation. A week before we were to start, while I was lifting a vessel of boiling water from the stove, I spilled it down the side of my body. The pain was very severe. Turning to Truth, I read and pondered Mrs. Eddy's dynamic words in "the scientific statement of being," found on page 468 of Science and Health, "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter." This scientific assurance filled and exalted my consciousness.
