The Healing Point of View

For every burdened one there is healing today in Christian Science. With joy can the fearful, the sick, the unhappy, the poverty-stricken, the repentant, turn to the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy, who, through her spiritual discernment, discovered the divine Principle and rule by which the Master healed. She gave to the world the elucidation of her discovery in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." On pages 476 and 477 she writes: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick. Thus Jesus taught that the kingdom of God is intact, universal, and that man is pure and holy."

What, then, did Jesus behold? What appeared to him as the actual or real man? Could he have healed the sick by regarding the discordant condition as real? Could he have cast out evils by accepting them as true? It is obvious that his method of healing required both correct spiritual seeing and unseeing. The redeeming point of view, which he entertained, cognized only perfection. The mortal concept was denied and dismissed.

In Matthew we find recorded the Master's words: "The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness." Discernment of the true and the elimination of the false constitute the method of the practical application of Christian Science teaching.
