With great gratitude for all the blessings which Christian Science...
With great gratitude for all the blessings which Christian Science has brought to me and for what it is doing for all mankind, I write this testimony.
While I was going through some trying human experiences my health failed. My entire system seemed to be abnormal, and after X-ray examinations I was advised to go West, for my lungs were affected. After living for months in a western state, I was suddenly taken with an abscess in the lower colon, and was sent home almost unconscious from pain and despair. I entered a hospital, where I remained for twelve weeks, during which time I was operated upon six times and was still "nothing bettered." At last I was dismissed as incurable. Days and weeks followed with no hope held out for my recovery. Two children were dependent on me for support, and at last I felt I must make an effort to care for them. I secured a position in a small western town. Here fear and loneliness crept in, and my mental burden was almost more than I could bear.
At this point, a young girl with whom I was associated in business said, "What you need is Christian Science." I knew nothing about this Science, but told her I would attend services with her. In the small church which we attended I heard readings from the Bible and from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The next day I borrowed a copy of the textbook and began to read it. Ten or twelve days later I awakened one morning to find I was free from pain, worry, and fear. I was so uplifted over this that I gave no further thought to the physical condition, until some time later, when I discovered that the lung trouble and incurable disease were gone. This was cause for great rejoicing. I had been freed by reading Science and Health. Conditions became better in many ways: people who had seemed unkind were now lovable, the children were in the Christian Science Sunday School, and the little flat that once was homely and unattractive was now to me a sweet, quiet place in which to play and study after working hours. Indeed, "a new heaven and a new earth" had appeared.
