Twenty-six years ago I was healed by Christian Science of heart disease. I was then living in Shanghai, China, and had recently had typhoid fever, which had left me with heart trouble. The doctor had forbidden me to take any form of exercise, had warned me to live a quiet life, and had given me drugs to take regularly.

At that time I was a very earnest member of the Church of England, having been a Sunday school teacher, an altar server, a chorister in Shanghai Cathedral, and honorary organist at a Missions to Seamen's church. I had also been instrumental in organizing a branch of the Church of England men's society in Shanghai.

At this point I met some students of Christian Science and began to argue with them somewhat heatedly against what I thought Christian Science to be. One of them asked me if I would read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I said that I would in order to see where the book was wrong. After reading but a small part of the book I found that it was my thinking that had been wrong and the book was right.
