Peace, the Fulfillment of Prophecy

Peace was presented to mankind over nineteen centuries ago, and the gift still stands. No matter what the material senses may claim to offer for our acceptance, we know that the angelic proclamation of peace is irrevocable. The Prince of Peace was born in the little town of Bethlehem, and the angels announced the appearing of our Saviour in this wise: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." That holy benediction still breathes over a world, and must eventually be realized; while all that would claim power apart from God inevitably will be self-destroyed.

We must work out our salvation according to our understanding of God and the government of the one Mind, and thus help to bring about the fulfillment of the angelic message. This we know can be accomplished only through right thinking and singleness of vision. It demands consecrated work, in the interest of all humanity and for the establishment of the reign of harmony on earth.

Our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 64), "Spirit will ultimately claim its own,—all that really is,—and the voices of physical sense will be forever hushed." It is important to note that the proclamation of peace which came with the Saviour's advent on earth was reiterated at the close of his career, when he said, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you." He brought peace to all men, and left it with them. A priceless gift, bestowed by one who spoke with authority, well knowing that the law of his heavenly Father was then and there being enforced and could never be reversed!
