In your report of the annual meeting of Ayr County...
Ayr Advertiser
In your report of the annual meeting of Ayr County Hospital, which appeared recently in the Advertiser, I note with grateful appreciation the high regard in which the teaching of Christian Science is held by the reverend gentleman who seconded the adoption of the annual report. There is, however, a possibility that, from his statement, as quoted by you, the teaching of Christian Science relative to the question of disease may not correctly be understood by your readers. I should be grateful, therefore, if you will kindly permit me to make this clear.
The Mind on which Christian Science relies to produce a healthy body is not the human, or mortal, mind, but God, the one infinite Mind, "who," as the Psalmist says, healeth all thy diseases." That Mind, Paul says, "was also in Christ Jesus." Mortal mind is the producer of all discord, and holy inspiration is required to nullify its effects. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, in her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," says (p. 169): "[Christian] Science not only reveals the origin of all disease as mental, but it also declares that all disease is cured by divine Mind. There can be no healing except by this Mind, however much we trust a drug or any other means towards which human faith and endeavor is directed."
In proportion as men correctly understand with the Apostle John that "all things were made by him was [God]; and without him was not any thing made that was made;" that disease being evil God did not make it and thus it is unreal, will they be free from the effects of disease and all discord. Since God, Spirit, is infinite, man made in the image and likeness of God is His infinite, spiritual expression. An understanding of this spiritual fact produces health and removes disease from the human body.
