Over thirty years ago I suffered intense pain periodically....
Over thirty years ago I suffered intense pain periodically. An honor graduate of Johns Hopkins University was consulted and an examination made. She stated that there was an adhesion of two vital organs, and if left thus, a serious trouble would undoubtedly develop; hence she recommended an operation. I would not consent to this, and continued to suffer greatly for three more years. At different dates two other doctors were interviewed, each stating emphatically that it was a cancerous growth. I was steadily losing strength and suffering so constantly that for five months I was confined to my bed.
Then a friend spent the day with us for the express purpose of relating her recent healing through Christian Science. On returning home, she mailed three copies of the Christian Science Sentinel to me. I read every article, completing them about the third day. On this morning I felt so fresh and strong that I did not wish to stay in bed; so instead of sitting up for the accustomed five or ten minutes, and then through exhaustion returning to bed, I continued to sit up for a long time and to enjoy it. In fact, there was evidence of such vigor that I decided to go into the dining room, where my mother was at the time. I did so, unaided and with a firm step, to the great astonishment of all, for I had been unable to walk more than ten feet at a time for the past five months, and at the end of that distance had been compelled to rest for the balance of the day. An operation had clearly been performed by divine Mind alone.
Since every article in the Sentinels quoted a statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, substantiating in a logical way the arguments, I was eager to read this book, hence I ordered a copy. My mother was so impressed that she ordered one for her own use, stating that any book was well worth studying, if excerpts from it woven into an article would bring about a healing such as mine.
