I have too long delayed adding my words of gratitude for the rich blessings which have come to me and mine through the study of Christian Science during many years.
I was in February, 1909, that I was able to come out victorious, after five years of many trials. I shall always remember these trials as "proofs of God's care" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 66). By visiting various churches, I had searched for many years for a God of love and understanding, only to be confronted by the doctrine of a far-away God, who punished, and whom we should fear. Therefore, I drifted along, constantly yearning for a God whom I could understand and obey to the best of my ability. Through disappointment, grief, and despair, I became weary, and mentally and physically sick. We were at that time living in one of the middle states.
Stomach and bowel trouble made their appearance. Many doctors were sought, but conditions grew worse. Finally, the doctors advised my husband that he should take me to the west coast, hoping this might benefit me, because medicines had failed.
