The time has come for me to voice the joy that has long been mine through the study and application of Christian Science.

I was first introduced to our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, by a much-loved aunt, who was a Christian Scientist. At the age of ten, when attending an orthodox Sunday school, I had been deemed impudent for resenting the constant reiteration of the statement that Christ died for us. I burst forth one Sunday with the question, "Why don't we stop talking about that? Didn't he live for us?" What followed ended my attendance at that Sunday school, but the question went home with me, where questions were never considered impudent, and it was answered by the aunt who lived with us, and who promptly bought me my first copy of Science and Health.

This was a good many years ago, and there was neither a Christian Science Sunday School nor church for me to attend. My parents believed in freedom of thought and action, so I was permitted to omit the medicines with which the other children were occasionally dosed. I have no doubt that my aunt was often busy in my behalf, although I did not realize it then. For many years my interest in Christian Science was spasmodic, but it was aroused after each treatment given to me by practitioners. There were many healings, for which I am more grateful today than I knew how to be at the time. I read a good deal without understanding very much, and without realizing how little I knew.
