From the study of Christian Science, I have gained a sense of protection which has been invaluable to me in the air, as the following will show.

Four years ago I was flying up the west coast of the United States en route to Alaska. Early one morning the squadron of large patrol seaplanes commenced a flight. Flying just above the water under a low ceiling, we presently began to encounter patches of fog. The squadron commander ordered me, by radio, to drop back five miles by circling with my section of three planes, in order to minimize the risk of collision with his section in case of low visibility.

Half an hour later I was forced by fog to sheer out sharply from the coast and head out to sea. It appeared afterward that the squadron commander made a greater turn than I did, on the natural presumption that the distance between us would preclude any risk of collision.
