We are at a turning-point in history, and men are asking themselves anxiously what the morrow will bring forth. Everywhere the conviction is growing that it is necessary to revise our ideas radically, ideas which are no longer consonant with present events.

Events are passing rapidly; external reforms will not suffice to anticipate them; human reason cannot find solutions to the problems which confront us, because the very foundation is deficient—our inner life.
