About twenty-five years ago, a woman came to our home...

About twenty-five years ago, a woman came to our home and left a book with me which she asked me to give to my mother, who was an invalid. This book was "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. At that time I did not know anything about Christian Science, and I cannot remember that I ever told my mother about the book. Several weeks later the same woman returned and asked if we had finished reading the book she had left. I thanked her and told her that we had not had time to read it.

I have thought of that incident many times since, and have wished that our visitor had been more persistent. But I have begun to learn that in Truth nothing is lost.

Nearly six years after the above incident, my husband was transferred to Texas. After residing about three years in this state, I received a telephone call one afternoon, while entertaining a group of friends. The message stated that my mother had passed on. Many of the friends who were present that day tried, without success, to console me. Finally, one friend asked them to let her talk to me alone. This they did, and I am sure it was not five minutes before I felt so relieved that I was able to finish serving the refreshments I had prepared. Later I learned that this friend was a student of Christian Science, and she lovingly presented me with the textbook, Science and Health.
