Relationship

In speaking of man's relationship with God, Mrs. Eddy has written on page 181 of "Miscellaneous Writings," "It is not, then, a personal gift, but is the order of divine Science."

He who has established this spiritual relationship, has done forever with loneliness. He may appear to the world to be alone, but he is endowed with a companionship which is independent of time and space, against which the arguments of loss or fear will beat in vain. "For I am not alone," said Jesus, "but I and the Father that sent me." What a complete, what a universal, remedy for loneliness is this divine coordination and co-operation as cited by Christ Jesus!

The demand for and dependence on continual companionship are the explanation for a large measure of the fear, the restlessness, the forced activity of mankind. By indulgence therein, men relinquish their divine right to place sole reliance on and communicate direct with the Author of their being; to develop within themselves those spiritual senses which alone can infallibly preserve and fashion their lives. Such continual communion Jesus knew to be essential in his progressive development as the Son of God.
