I have had the inestimable blessing of Christian Science...
I have had the inestimable blessing of Christian Science in my life for so many years that I think it would be impossible for me adequately to gauge my indebtedness to this great religion.
Its benefits in my experience include the healing of defective vision and the necessity of wearing glasses. On two occasions I have been healed of influenza, with the help of loving and consecrated practitioners. Other physical healings include those of a frozen ear, acute indigestion, an abscess, and, on several occasions, severe cuts and bruises.
Christian Science has helped me immeasurably during the occasional times when I have been unemployed, either with the help of a practitioner or through my own understanding. Some years ago one instance, in particular, taught me an important lesson relative to this problem. I had at that time lost a congenial and lucrative position. I was very much worried and somewhat resentful over this loss. I went to a practitioner, who, after giving me a treatment, told me that I must look, not for a job, but for the ever-present opportunity of giving service and love. The need for ungrudging service in the world of business, as in every other sphere of human activity, is so great that in less than an hour I was offered an opportunity to serve. The situation offered me was a poor one in remuneration and status, and my first impulse was to refuse it scornfully. But remembering the practitioner's admonition, I accepted it and determined to give as much as I possibly could. Through obeying this essential rule of Christian Science I had a most pleasant experience in this work, and at the end of a few days was remarkably led to a most lucrative and interesting position, in fact, the best that I had ever had.
