The recognition of healing through Christian Science,...

The recognition of healing through Christian Science, expressed by the article "Love Heals All Ills," in your recent issue, is appreciated. However, certain statements and implications in the item give a mistaken impression of Christian Science. Therefore, may I have the privilege of placing before your readers some points relating to this religion?

Christian Science is based upon the inspired teachings of the Bible, and especially upon the words and works of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, was a deep student of the Bible. Reasoning from a Scriptural foundation, and inspired by spiritual revelation, she wrote "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the textbook of Christian Science.

The first step of the student who seeks a demonstrable understanding of Christian Science is to realize the true nature of God and man. The Scriptural teaching concerning the Supreme Being is summed up by Mrs. Eddy in her definition of God (Science and Health, p. 587): "The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." And the Bible presents the truth about man in the statements: "God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.... And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Reasoning logically from these premises, the student concludes that the true man is the image or expression of Spirit, the perfect reflection of infinite goodness. This man, God's idea, lives, moves, and has his being in Spirit, God, and is not subject to carnal weaknesses or physical disorders, but is constantly at the point of perfection.
