True Progress

In Christian Science one learns that true progress is a divine demand and not merely a human prerogative.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 233) Mary Baker Eddy states, "Progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil." How comforting and heartening to know that one is equal to the demands made upon him! And this is made possible through the understanding of God's law, as taught in Christian Science.

A dictionary defines "progress," in part, as "a proceeding onward from one point or degree to one further advanced." This suggests the question, "Advanced toward what?" There must be an ultimate purpose or aim, and human opinions differ widely as to the nature of the goal. To one it may be the accumulation of wealth; to another, prestige and power. The Christian Scientist's aim is the perfect realization of man's true relationship to God, his divine Principle; and he rejoices in every experience that compels him to draw nearer his goal.
