Beginning with Perfection

For numberless years mankind has been trying to extricate itself from the vicissitudes of mortal existence, from sin, disease, and death, and it seems to have failed. Is it any wonder, then, that an intelligent humanity is asking the reason for this apparent failure and is searching for the way out?

Christian Scientists are rejoicing that they have found the way out of mortal error. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, points out the way where she says in no uncertain terms, in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 259), "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration." Is not the reason for the seeming failure that men start from the wrong basis, from imperfection instead of perfection?

Christian Science teaches that the solving of human problems, of whatever name or nature, begins with perfect God, perfect man, and perfect universe, clearly shown in the first chapter of Genesis, where it is stated that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Think of it! God made a perfect, complete, immaculate, and entirely good universe, including man in His image and likeness, and nothing has ever altered that perfect creation.
