In 1910 Christian Science was brought into our home
In 1910 Christian Science was brought into our home. As a result of a fall when I was four years old, I had become a hopeless cripple; for nine years I walked with two crutches, a steel brace, and a fourteen-inch extension shoe. My dislocated hip had become useless, and paralytic invalidism was the verdict pronounced by some of the most eminent physicians with whom a renowned Austrian specialist sat in conference. According to the diagnosis I could not live to the age of sixteen years, and would die of tuberculosis. When my parents heard about Christian Science, they asked for treatment for me. Through the help of a practitioner the mist began to clear away, the mesmerism of the Adam-dream was lifted, material shackles were loosed, and I was free. I have never since used any medicine or spent a day in bed because of illness. Years later I had an X ray taken, and the picture disclosed a normal condition of the hip. I have been married for twenty years; and I have driven a car for more than twelve years.
I have witnessed many beautiful healings. While I was curling my hair one day about ten years ago, the hot iron slipped from my hand and struck my right eye, leaving a white mark on the pupil, which was very painful. As I lay on the settee, I called for my copy of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy—one that had just been given to me for a gift. I held the book thinking (Science and Health, p. 135), "What cannot God do?" The healing was complete, but I do not remember just when the error disappeared.
We have had healings in our family of influenza, colds, burns, lack, and fear since starting a consecrated study of Christian Science. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for the opportunity of teaching in the Sunday school; for church activities; for all the periodicals and for class instruction; also to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy; and for proof by demonstration that man is coexistent with God.
