I desire to express my gratitude for what Christian Science...
I desire to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done and is doing for me. This Science has been my only physician for thirty-six years, healing me morally, physically, and financially.
In 1901, after I had taken many kinds of medicine for stomach trouble, and consulted different physicians, I turned to a Christian Science practitioner for help, and was healed. I have ever since eaten whatever I wished, without fear. When treatment was first sought, I was given a copy of The Christian Science Journal, and began to read it. During the next few days I noticed that I was forgetting to use tobacco and alcoholic drinks. I had become a slave to both. When I did remember them, the desire for them was gone. There was no effort on my part—no will power—the desire for them was simply gone. I have been indeed grateful for that healing alone.
During the intervening years there have been many other demonstration for myself and others, and I have led an unusually busy life. The only occasion on which I had to be absent from work was some years ago when my hand was infected. A faithful practitioner worked for and with me, and for some days, in the middle of a cold winter; fear at times made earnest mental work necessary. My occupation at the time was typing, and it required unusual nimbleness of both hands. One cold night, after attending a Christian Science lecture, I felt that I was healed, although the outward evidence seemed very much to the contrary. Nevertheless, wrappings that were being worn to ward off the cold were deliberately removed. After a night of restful sleep, I resumed work the next afternoon, typing more than ten thousand words that same evening. Up to the time I went to work I did not believe such a thing could be possible. The healing was complete, and ever since then both hands have had a nimbleness not experienced previously.
