Prayer of the Wayfarer

Along this road I may not pass again;
But may I give some kindly aid each day,
A burden lighten, ease a heart of pain,
Should earth-worn traveler chance to come my way!

Content with happiness and perfect peace
That passeth understanding, may my prayer
Assuage as heavenly balm, my faith release
Some brother man from load of grief and care!

And may my light so shine that others be
Enfolded in that bright celestial ray,
Before whose purity all shadows flee,
As mists dissolve at dawn of newborn day!
