Christian Science has been defined by its Discoverer, Mary Baker Eddy, as law—"the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony" (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1).

This law, Christian Scientists understand, is ever operative and unchanging. As its exclusive activity and presence are spiritually apprehended and realized, the sense of any other influence or effect disappears from human consciousness, and the healing of the ills "that flesh is heir to" is made manifest.

Christian Science is based upon the Bible, particularly upon the teachings of Christ Jesus, who brought to view the healing effects of God's law. Mrs. Eddy was always a deep student of the Bible. She had great love and sympathy for humanity struggling with afflictions, and she knew the Bible contained the solution for humanity's problems.
