"Insistence requisite"

Christ Jesus healed all manner of disease quickly and completely. His pure consciousness of God as Love and of God's allness enabled him to heal the sick, the lame, the blind, to cast out sinful beliefs, and to raise the dead. Mrs. Eddy declares (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 200), "It was the consummate naturalness of Truth in the mind of Jesus, that made his healing easy and instantaneous." To those who strive to follow his example it may sometimes seem difficult to achieve so exalted a state of consciousness. It often seems to require what is known as a mental argument to bring about the desired result.

This argument is not, however, with persons—"for we wrestle not against flesh and blood." It is not with ourselves. Right argument is a process of individual thinking or reasoning whereby we may correct and nullify an erroneous belief entertained by ourselves or by others. At times, this so-called belief against which our argument is directed may seem to us to be very real and fraught with possibilities of harm.

At times of crisis, much spiritual inspiration and practical benefit may be gained by pondering the words of our Leader in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." She says (p. 421), "Insist vehemently on the great fact which covers the whole ground, that God, Spirit, is all, and that there is none beside Him." On page 412, under the marginal heading "Insistence requisite," appears a similar admonition: "Mentally insist that harmony is the fact, and that sickness is a temporal dream."
