When I first attended a Protestant Sunday school, it was with the eager desire to learn how Christ Jesus healed the sick. Materia medica was another door at which, a few years later, I knocked in vain for the help I was again seeking. Specialists said that if I did not undergo a certain slight operation I should have cancer. The operation was performed, but instead of regaining my health, I fell into a state of semi-invalidism attended by greatly increased fear.

At this point I requested a friend who was a student of Christian Science to send me some of the periodicals, which I read with interest. Here was another system of healing. In justice to myself I decided to give it a trial. My mother found a practitioner, who called the next day. I was much impressed with her sincerity.

In that first treatment I was healed of serious liver trouble that physicians had been unable to cure. Since that day, thirty years ago, I have not taken medicine of any description. As the treatments continued I was soon healed of indigestion of several years' standing, so that I could eat any kind of food, even shellfish, which for years previously had caused much discord every time I ate it. Other forms of fear also yielded, some of them after a long time. The fear of riding in the subway was not permanently overcome until a few years ago, when I was privileged to spend two weeks at the Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium in Boston. It is now a convenience to use the subway with entire freedom.
