[Original testimony in German]

Out of deep gratitude that God has heard my prayer to...

Out of deep gratitude that God has heard my prayer to find Him, I should like to testify to His goodness.

When I was six years old I became very ill with pneumonia. A short time before this, my mother had heard of Christian Science through a friend who had just come from America. I was under medical treatment, but when the health officer took leave of my mother, intimating that there was little hope left, she telephoned to this Christian Scientist and inquired whether Christian Science could be of help, even in this situation. Treatment was then given me, and I was immediately healed. When the physician returned after a few days and expressed surprise that he had not been called to render the last service, my mother told him that I was well and that he might like to see me. He came to me, took my hand, greatly moved, and said: "Child, kneel before your heavenly Father and thank Him, for He has made you well. He has done what I could not do." Although the doctor did not understand that it was indeed God who had healed me, he had spoken the truth. I shall never forget that statement, nor the wonderful joy that had come over me as a result of the treatment—joy which always accompanies the healing work.

After that healing I went to Sunday school a few times, but felt that I was unable to understand anything and again attended the Sunday school of the established church. For many years I sought for an understanding of the Bible, but in my study I found so many contradictions that I finally felt I should find no correct teaching in a wholly orthodox church. I then sought for understanding in various mental systems. In these, however, I found nothing but theories which were unable to satisfy my hunger and thirst, and a great sense of weariness, disillusionment, and even bitterness crept into my thought.
