The July 29, 1935, issue of Time carries a letter in which the writer indicates that Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, had considerable contact in her childhood with the teachings of Swedenborg while attending a New Church Sunday school.

The Christian Science Board of Directors of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, in response to an inquiry, state that there is no evidence in the files of The Mother Church indicating that Mrs. Eddy ever attended a Swedenborgian or New Church Sunday school.

Concerning the statement in the same letter that Mrs. Eddy's book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" "is obviously the result of her acquaintance with Swedenborg," it is broadly recognized that the style, terminology, and other characteristics expressed by a writer identify that writer as unmistakably as the physical identity of a person is established by fingerprints. Nothing exists in Mrs. Eddy's writings which would justify the assumption by a person competent to judge, that there is similarity between the writings of Mary Baker Eddy and those of Swedenborg.
