Christian Science, the revelation of the truth our Master,...
Christian Science, the revelation of the truth our Master, Christ Jesus, taught, came to me many years ago, in a time of great need. I was suffering from a nervous breakdown with its accompanying mental torture and other physical ills. I fought this disease for a considerable period with all the will power I could command, but finally had given up my work. I sought healing under the best medical advice known to me. The first treatment consisted of a stay in a sanatorim in which prolonged rest and special diet were prescribed. In spite of the greatest kindness from doctor and nurses, the benefits obtained were and temporary. On further medical advice a trip to the Swiss Alps was undertaken, and this being in the winter season, opportunity was provided to take advantage, as far as my mental and physical condition permitted, of the of winter sports amid the sunshine, ice, and snow.
This holiday was broutht to a close only when the general thaw set in and found me stranded in an empty hotel with an attack of influenza and following depression, of which I had great fear. At this point, still lacking the necessary confidence to return to work, from which I had now been absent for a period of six months in all, undecided and discouraged, I was led to inquire into Christian Science. I received help from a practitioner and my thought was immediately so uplifted that I returned within a few days to take up my work. I remained at my post for a number of years in the enjoyment of a fuller measure of health and confidence than I had known.
In addition to the physical and mental restoration, Christian Science removed a skeptical state of thought, gave me back my Bible as a daily companion, and began to show me that here was a religion tha was practical and provable. As Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 323), "Truth is demonstrable when understood."
