Christian Science was first presented to me while I was...

Christian Science was first presented to me while I was in a hospital. For many months previous to my entering the hospital, I had been referred to one doctor after another, none of whom was able to relieve me. It was finally suggested by one doctor that I subject myself to complete hospital observation, so that he might better decide what ailed me. While there I had all kinds of medical tests and examinations, including X rays and fluoroscopic photographs—all without the anticipated results. Despondency ensued,

While I was in the hospital, a friend called on me and brought me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I made an effort to read it, but not understanding it, I laid it aside.

Three months after being sent home I was in a worse condition than before. I could neither sleep nor digest any kind of food. The fact that I was unable to care for my two small children added nothing to my peace of mind.

Then Christian Science was held out to me once more, as a sustaining influence, by another friend, who related to me in detail many healings she and her family had experienced through its application. This time I resolved to give Christian Science the same opportunity that I had previously given medical science. Immediately I visited a practitioner and began studying earnestly. I cannot remember when or how the healing took place, but I know that I was healed.

I am indeed thankful for this and many other healings, but what I am most grateful for is the change Christian Science has made in my outlook on life. It has given and is giving me to drink of "living waters."

My progress in Christian Science did not come until I had gained a greater appreciation of Mrs. Eddy, and a deeper insight into her life. This came through my reading of her biography by Sibyl Wilbur.

Words are ineffectual to express what I feel for Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder. "Man's extremity is God's opportunity," and I have often felt, since gaining some knowledge of Christian Science that I am indeed grateful for the extremity that brought me into this wonderful truth. My gratitude for all the activities of the Christian Science movement is unbounded, especially for loyal teachers who are faithfully directing the footsteps of students in the straight and narrow path. Church membership in both The Mother Church and a branch church is as a beacon light for Love's unfoldment. My most sincere prayer is so to live that I may be worthy of the name "Christian Scientist."
