I wish to express my gratitude for a very beautiful healing...
I wish to express my gratitude for a very beautiful healing of a mastoid abscess, which came to our daughter when she was eight years old. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 66) that "trials are proofs of God's care." This experience was indeed a severe trial of my faith, and it resulted in a wonderful proof of God's care.
My husband was not interested in Christian Science, and naturally was filled with fear for the little girl. We were living in a small apartment at the time, and as it seemed necessary to have a Christian Science nurse with us, my husband went to his club for the nights. This made it much easier for us, as often we were declaring the truth all night long, and it was then that the Christian Science hymns proved such a source of comfort and help.
One evening my husband went in to see the child, and quite suddenly she removed the bonnet which we had made for her comfort. When he saw the manifestation, which was a distressing picture, he became alarmed and insisted upon calling in an ear specialist at once. I went to the telephone and called the practitioner who had been working for us so faithfully day and night, and persuaded my husband to talk with her. She assured him that the condition would be healed in Christian Science. He was still very greatly disturbed, so I told him that if he felt that he must call in a physician, all right; but if he did so, he would have to assume the entire responsibility. On the other hand, I would be willing to take the full responsibility for Christian Science treatment. He was quite impressed by this stand which I took, knowing as he did how much this only child meant to me, so he stepped aside and let me continue having the Christian Science help. I have never ceased to be grateful that I was able to take this stand, for it marked the turning point, and from that time on the manifestation of error gradually disappeared.
