Christian Science came to our home during my early...
Christian Science came to our home during my early childhood, through the need of my mother, who was pronounced incurable with a cancerous growth. My sister and I thought it a mother's normal state to be ill, as we had known our mother only as an invalid. The understanding of Christian Science proved to us that man's birthright is dominion; and we saw our mother restored to complete health.
I was a sickly child, wore glasses for farsightedness and astigmatism, had constant headaches, bilious attacks, and ear trouble. The glasses were soon put aside and the other ailments were gradually overcome through this Science. I am very grateful for having had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School and later of becoming a member of The Mother Church and of a local branch church. I feel sure that only through the understanding gained in Christian Science, of God as divine Principle, Mind, was I able to complete my schooling through a university.
Over two years ago I had an opportunity to prove Christian Science to be the most skillful surgeon. My foot was badly crushed in an accident, and to all appearance bones were broken. I refused to have it examined and immediately asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner. The healing was slow, and when I was asked if I desired to have an X ray taken of the foot, I wished to think about such a step before answering, so I took the Concordances to Mrs. Eddy's works and looked up the word "X ray" and found only one reference, in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 112), "Hypnotism, microbes, X-rays, and ex-common sense, occupy time and thought; and error, given new opportunities, will improve them." I now knew that I wanted to rely wholly on the X ray of Truth—because Truth faithfully applied had never failed me. I am very grateful for the faithful practitioners who supported me during this growing, healing time. I can say that this foot is now in even better condition than before the accident.
