In the late summer of 1928 I became afflicted with neuritis and arthritis. After going through great pain and suffering and taking medicine from many physicians, I was finally told by one that arthritis could not be cured. I was then persuaded by my wife to try Christian Science. Neither of us had made a study of this Science up to that time, but we had very close friends who had been healed through its study. I had no idea I should be helped by it, but was willing to try anything that promised relief. The practitioner did not seem interested in discussing my trouble, but said that he would begin work for me at once, and gave me some Christian Science literature to read. I already owned a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, but had never read it. I began to study this book and read the literature given me, and to my surprise the pain left within ten days; and this proved to be a permanent healing. I had a deep yearning to take up the study of Christian Science and to leave a church affiliation of long standing and give all the time possible to this study, this new-found joy. It has been my only physician since, and I have had many other healings besides the one mentioned. I had the tobacco habit, and smoked almost constantly. I had tried to quit many times, but always went back to it. One treatment for this habit of twenty-five years' standing healed me completely, and I have never used tobacco since.
During the years of so-called business depression I have been blessed in an unusual way. While I have had many problems to work out, and still have many each day, yet I have been free from worry, and I find real joy in living and overcoming these daily problems. Every day I find a deeper desire for a more spiritual life and a joy inexpressible in words for the Christian Science literature. Words cannot express my deep gratitude to God for revealing this living truth to Mrs. Eddy, who was unselfish enough to give it to the world.—Oscar T. Mitchell, Evanston, Illinois.
