About sixteen years ago I took up the study of Christian Science...
About sixteen years ago I took up the study of Christian Science because of illness. Previously, for a number of years, I had been in failing health. I had gone to many physicians and had tried many material remedies and seemed to improve for a little while, but then became worse until finally I was so ill I was afraid of paralysis. I was suffering from sick headaches, nervousness, ulceration of the stomach, sluggish liver, and constipation in its worst form. I was asked by a friend if I would try Christian Science. This friend, who was not a Scientist, had known a man who was healed of tuberculosis. I was told that there was a Christian Scientist in the town where I then lived who would come to the house and explain this Science to me. One afternoon, when I was worse than usual, I thought it would be a good time to try Christian Science. I called this lady and she came over and explained many things, and told me she would give me absent treatment. I got up, ate dinner, went to a lodge meeting, and attended to the work I usually did there. I knew then that this was proof that there must be great good in this teaching. I had another treatment from a practitioner and had an instantaneous healing of constipation. Gradually all of my ailments have fallen away, and I am enjoying the best of health, for which I am very grateful. It is so wonderful to be free.
I am grateful for the healing truth, and know that when it is applied to the problems which confront us, whether they be financial, physical, or any other kind, they disappear as this truth comes into our consciousness. I am grateful that I am learning more about God; for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for class instruction; for the literature; for the practitioners; for the joy and peace which come to me in my daily study; for the church services; for supply; for progress. I am grateful to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who has given us the "key" to the Scriptures so that we may more fully understand them.
