In 1916, through the gentle ministrations of Christian Science, I was saved from undergoing an operation for internal complications. Organs had been diagnosed as displaced, a condition which I had been assured could be rectified only by surgery. In this extremity it was revealed to me by a loving Christian Scientist that Life is God, and that I live, move, and have my being in this infinite, pure, harmonious Life. The light of Truth penetrated my darkened consciousness, and I understood how God is "a very present help in trouble." Through this revelation the statements of truth contained in the Bible, of which I was a deep student, became living, real, substantial.
I was healed of a long-standing mental malady and of ignorance of God and His spiritual law of life in Christ. This healing of ignorance was outwardly manifested as a perfectly adjusted body without the use of material means. Then began a study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, with the sole objective of realizing more fully "the kingdom of God, and his righteousness," in my own consciousness, and hence in that of all mankind. Sixteen years in this sacred study have tended to increased zeal for spiritual understanding.
I am grateful for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for class instruction; also profoundly thankful for the Board of Directors of The Mother Church in their close guardianship of the Church Manual amid the storms of so-called mortal mind; for all the literature, and for Mrs. Eddy's unselfed work on behalf of humanity.—(Mrs.) MARGARET MCMILLAN, Christchurch, New Zealand.
