A Prayer

LET me, dear Father, of Thy love so sing,
That I may bring
A strain of melody to some sad heart,
There to impart
A priceless boon, whereby shall gladness spring
To blossoming;
E'en though I walk apart, from need or choice,
Let me rejoice
With such unfaltering trust, that they who hear
Shall know Thee nearer
And hold Thee dearer,
Forgetting all save Thee, in faith sincere.

Let me, dear Father, with Thy light divine
So sweetly shine,
That to some heart depressed a ray may steal,
Which shall reveal
The tenderness of Thy benignant face,
Thy changeless grace;
E'en though unknown, unknowing, I may go,
May someone know
The shielding comfort of Thy ministry,
And 'neath Thy guiding
In peace abiding,
Forsake all else, that he may vision Thee!
