A Prayer

LET me, dear Father, of Thy love so sing,That I may bringA strain of melody to some sad heart,There to impartA priceless boon, whereby shall gladness springTo blossoming;E'en though I walk apart, from need or choice,Let me rejoiceWith such unfaltering trust, that they who hearShall know Thee nearerAnd hold Thee dearer,Forgetting all save Thee, in faith sincere.

Let me, dear Father, with Thy light divineSo sweetly shine,That to some heart depressed a ray may steal,Which shall revealThe tenderness of Thy benignant face,Thy changeless grace;E'en though unknown, unknowing, I may go,May someone knowThe shielding comfort of Thy ministry,And 'neath Thy guidingIn peace abiding,Forsake all else, that he may vision Thee!
