With grateful heart I join the great army of the redeemed...

With grateful heart I join the great army of the redeemed who testify of the blessings received through the study of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the help of faithful practitioners.

About twenty years ago, while living in Denver, Colorado, I came down with pneumonia. I was sixty-five years of age, and had little hope of recovery. It was commonly thought that one with that disease who took to his bed in that altitude might just as well make his will. Instead, it was the first stepping-stone in bringing me to the blessing of Christian Science. I am one of a large family of children, and most of them, and also my mother, passed on with consumption. I felt that would be my fate. A dear friend who was not a Christian Scientist advised me to try Christian Science. I promptly refused to do so, but my suffering was so great that I finally decided to give it a trial just for relief. I was still full of doubt and criticism; thus my first visit to a practitioner was not what I had hoped for, and I decided not to go back again. While I was debating the question, my daughter said to me, "Mother, you are not giving the subject a fair trial." This I felt was the truth, and I decided at once to return for another treatment. Now I am still thanking my Redeemer and dear Mrs. Eddy for that day's revelation and illumination of God's holy Word, and for the true interpreter—Science and Health. When I left the practitioner's office I knew that I not only had been healed physically but had been "born again." I was so overjoyed that I did not take the street car on my return home, as I wanted to be alone. The distance was twenty long blocks, which I had not been able to walk for months, but now I found I was walking with all the ease and vigor of my youth.

I have also been healed of severe cases of asthma, gallstones, and inflamed eyes. But with all the many blessings I have had, none can be compared to the spiritual uplifting that has come to me. I know that Christian Science is all worth while and permanent, and it truly sustains in times of trouble. For this I am thankful beyond words, and also for all the Christian Science periodicals; and last but not least for membership in The Mother Church and the joy of attending branch churches and Christian Science lectures wherever I am.
