Items of Interest

A series of historical articles written by the Editor of the Bureau of History and Statistics, Judge Clifford P. Smith, will be published in The Christian Science Journal beginning in the May issue. The first of these articles is entitled, "Mrs. Eddy's Earlier Years," and the second, "Our First Organization." The series is planned to present alternate articles on Mrs. Eddy's life and on the progress of the Church she founded. New material based on the historical files of The Mother Church, as presented in these articles, will be read with keen interest by the many new members of The Mother Church, as well as by members who are more or less familiar with the early history of our movement. Other source material has been made available by the Trustees of the Longyear Foundation, who have courteously opened their file of historical documents for the purpose.

Besides the foregoing series, which is intended to continue at least a year, the April issue of the Journal will contain

an article by the Bureau Editor entitled, "Fifty Years Ago." In April The Christian Science Journal will have reached its fiftieth anniversary. Fifty years ago Mrs. Eddy as its first Editor and Publisher, as well as its Founder, issued an eight-page sheet, without cover, which she designated Journal of Christian Science, and underneath that title were the words, "An Independent Family Paper, to Promote Health and Morals." The April number of The Christian Science Journal will also carry an editorial by the Journal's Chief Editor dealing with the progress of that periodical during its half century of existence.
