I heard of Christian Science in 1898 through a lady who was an invalid and who had been given up by physicians and was then receiving help in Christian Science. She gave me a copy of The Christian Science Journal to take home to my mother, who was very much in need of healing from kidney, liver, and stomach troubles of a number of years' duration. The loan of the Journal was much appreciated, and in a short time the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was obtained, and my mother commenced to read it, expressing joy and gladness for its clear, logical explanation of the Bible teaching; in fact, she was so hungering for the truth that she read the book almost every available moment. In less than three months she was free from the former troubles and could eat without suffering distress. The healing came from reading Science and Health in connection with the Bible.
Our family have relied on Christian Science since our acquaintance with it, soon becoming regular attendants at the church services, which were held for a while in the home of the practitioner. In 1903 my mother and I joined The Mother Church, and in 1908 I had the blessed privilege of class instruction. I have been a subscriber to The Christian Science Monitor for myself or for others almost all of the time since the first issue, the Thanksgiving number in 1908.
I have no wonderful healing to relate for myself, although I was known as a frail child and delicate girl. I soon learned in Christian Science that man is governed by divine Mind, the law of God; and knowing the truth destroys fears and so makes free. I realize that an understanding of the truth such as we gain through the study of Christian Science is a preventive as well as a healing agency, because for more than twenty-five years I have been attending to my duties every day without any hindrances from sickness. I am certainly very grateful to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who so unselfishly persevered to give to the world Christian Science. "God is no respecter of persons," so the blessings are for all mankind who really desire to know the truth.
