At the age of nine I was fitted with glasses, and it was thought that I should never be able to discard them. A few years later my mother, who had become a student of Christian Science, took me to a practitioner for help in correcting this condition of defective sight; but owing to stubborn resistance on my part the healing did not come. At this time, however, I memorized "the scientific statement of being," which our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, gives us on page 468 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

Many years later I became very ill with influenza and one night was apparently about to pass on, when "the scientific statement of being" came back to me with such clearness that the fever left me instantly and I knew the healing had come. The remainder of the night was spent in peaceful sleep. The next morning I arose at the usual hour, and the following day was as well as ever and again at work. This healing was permanent and complete. Soon after that my glasses were laid aside. I had been reading for several weeks without glasses before I was aware of the fact. This healing look place without conscious effort on my part, and no doubt was the result of work previously done in my behalf, waiting only for a receptive thought—all of which furnishes another proof of Mrs. Eddy's words (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 100): "Love's labors are not lost.... Science voices unselfish love, unfolds infinite good, leads on irresistible forces, and will finally show the fruits of Love."

Since that time, through the study and application of Christian Science, blessings too numerous to relate have come into my experience. I have been freed from the sense of hurry and its consequent train of accidents and other discords. Debts of long standing have been paid and a kindlier feeling toward all mankind developed. My gratitude for this religion, which subjects its every statement to positive proof, is unbounded.
